The Lead Designer focuses on creating stunning visuals tailored for buyers’ journeys. While their skills are transferable across all mediums, they specialize in digital designs with an emphasis on web design and user experience. This person works closely with internal creative team members, account teams, and customer stakeholders to create a range of materials, from paid ads and flyers to robust websites, that are visually stunning, easy to navigate, and enhance the existing creative work. They can pinpoint pitfalls in their work (and others') and solve issues in the moment. And most importantly, they know how to rally other designers and work with other creatives to produce one-of-a-kind campaigns and experiences.
The Job
The Lead Designer will:
- Create user-centered digital designs (e.g., websites, paid ads, direct mailers, campaigns, etc.) by understanding business requirements, user journeys, and customer feedback.
- Quickly iterate through wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
- Ensure designs meet accessibility standards and responsive design best practices.
- Identify possible pitfalls in designs and work around them to prevent issues in development/execution.
- Communicate design concepts and rationale to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Analyze website performance metrics and user behavior data to optimize UX.
- Collaborate with designers, developers, the creative director, and other team members to produce cohesive campaigns and experiences.
- Mentor other designers to elevate creative output across projects.
- Stay current with design trends and incorporate data-driven insights to optimize user experience.
Your Skills
The Lead Designer is:
- A creative strategist with an ability to apply graphic design principles to multi-faceted web content, assess stickiness and performance, and pivot as needed.
- An excellent communicator with presentation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- A leader and mentor to the design team and the agency.
- Able to consider data-driven design, with a basic understanding of Google Analytics, HotJar, and other data-gathering tools.
- Communicative, with the ability to confidently present ideas and engage with others to brainstorm and gain input and perspective.
- Able to take feedback and direction on their work and turn it into polished, finished designs.
- Able to give constructive feedback on other team members’ work in a way that strengthens team relationships while improving the deliverables.
- Able to review team capacities and ensure the right projects are going to the right team members based on skillset.
- Willing to have growth conversations with team members to ensure the team is continually improving.
Qualifications
The Lead Designer must have:
- A strong portfolio that showcases a wide range of website designs they have personally designed, including demonstrated UX process (research, wireframes, testing, iteration).
- Strong expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma (including prototyping functionality).
- Experience mentoring or leading a design team successfully (including growing their team’s skills).
- Strong presentation skills to communicate design ideas to clients with limited knowledge of design best practices.
- An understanding (or willingness to learn) basic HubSpot functionality (e.g., asset saving and sizing, template creation, etc.)
- A hunger to work with clients of all sizes and industries.
